About LongDivisionMath.com
We built LongDivisionMath.com to make long division clear, fast, and actually teachable. Our free calculator shows every step — bring down → divide → multiply → subtract — so students, parents, and teachers can see the full process.
Open the Long Division CalculatorOur Story
LongDivisionMath.com started in Mesa, Arizona with a simple idea: students learn faster when they can see the work, not just the final number. After helping kids with homework and noticing how many online tools hid the method, we created a calculator that explains each decision along the way.
What We Believe
- Clarity beats complexity. Clean steps help concepts click.
- Access matters. The tool is free, fast, and mobile-friendly.
- Learning is active. Seeing each step builds confidence and independence.
How the Calculator Works
Enter a dividend and divisor, then click Show Steps. The calculator:
- Chooses the largest quotient digit q with q × divisor ≤ partial dividend
- Shows the multiply–subtract cycle and the running remainder
- Extends into decimals when needed and flags repeating cycles like 0.(142857)
- Supports negatives and up to 30 decimal places
